Really? EVERY Canon point and shoot comes with that capability out-of-the-box. Its just another example of the ridiculous computer/tech commercials that say, "Man, this laptop is great! I can check my email, and look at photos, watch movies, and listen to music... its... great!" Once again, EVERY laptop does that exact same thing, and has since 2002! EVERY smartphone does that exact same thing!

It just brings to mind a whole slough of poorly crafted advertising schemes as of late, such as the 10:10UK campaign that wants to promote "going green" by depicting, well, essentially acts of terrorism (hence the video thumbnail), in a very graphic manner:

::WARNING! NOT FOR YOUNG EYES, PREGNANT WOMEN, OR THOSE WITH BLADDER CONTROL OR HEART ISSUES.::

Taking a horror film class my last semester in school, I can honestly say that I can make the educated statement that the violence portrayed in this film for the sake of grotesque violence is essentially to cure the thirst of titillating images for the sick and deranged. Essentially pornography for those who would support and enjoy such an ad campaign.

Genius campaigns as of late have spurred some great, and clean I might ad, comic moments to the advertising world. The Book of Jer3miah web series takes up so much of my time, i hardly have time for the really important things (aka. Jewelyn). she's such a good sport though and supports me in all that stuff, which is just one more reason!!! the episodes are being received pretty well. every now and then we get some criticism, but i usually post a comment on the episode sometime after the critique and try to make them feel bad. its fun, trust me.

so if you haven't seen the SNL/Lonely Island music video "I'm on a Boat", you must. if you're sensitive to bleeped out foul language, let me recommend against seeing it. they've done it again... successfully made a high production value music video, with a high production value song, and it just seems like they're goofing around. this song/video is extremely popular for some strange reason on the set of jer3miah, so bryan and i decided to 'remake' the song. how often is there a parody of something done on SNL?

on monday, i wrote all of the music in MIDI, trying to copy each instrument's notes, rhythm, and voice. then on wednesday, bryan and i went into studio Y and recorded me rapping all of the vocals, with words i've been working on for about a week. we used it for this week's lab project. :) so we had to apply all of the effects and mix it in 2 hours or so... but we finished with about a minute to spare. maybe you'll be lucky enough to hear it one day.

wedding plans are going well. we're about 5 weeks out. people ask me if i'm nervous, but i don't really feel nervous. its a new, exciting chapter in my life. nothing to be nervous about. Jewelyn actually just left for her cousin's wedding up in Idaho Falls, so she's gone until sometime on sunday. in the meantime i guess i can catch up on some sleep. :)

web series

so i take it that you noticed that i haven't written on my blog in quite some time. here's a real quick update on the happenings of the past few months. i asked Jewelyn to marry me, and she said yes. (thank goodness) she's so awesome. :) my petition was accepted to the Media Arts program, and i'm actually going to be able to graduate. :)

and the thing in my life right now that is sucking all of my time is working on a web series--The Book of Jer3miah. it's really fun, but is a whole lot of work. Bryan Densley and I do all of the production sound and post-production sound. most of the time we only get a couple days to do our edit, but hopefully as everyone gets in the groove, we'll have a little more time to put some nice touches on everything. check out the widget at the top of my blog and watch all the episodes. :)

...yeah i know, it's been awhile...

if you can believe it, the only reason i found any time to write is because i forgot the power supply to my hard drive and can't edit in the lab... so, as i wait for Cinema History to start, i might as well appease you all by writing a few words.

school has been in for awhile now... several weeks actually, and things are good. i'm taking 16 credit hours, which sometimes feels like more and sometimes feels less... come the end of october though i'll be down 1 class in my

schedule because it's only a first block class. by far, my most involved class is TMA 185. it's a production class and has been non-stop writing, shooting, pitching, etc. it's pretty fun, nonetheless. 185, 114, 105, and 291 are all in preparation and anticipation of petitioning to be a major in January. cross your fingers.

back in June, i was supposed to do Sound Design for Gladys, a documentary by Josh Wagner. well, deadlines were set back again and again as it went through several edits. just this past saturday, we completed it. sometimes it's frustrating when you do sound design for a 28 minute documentary, and then it gets re-edited and re-sent to you, again and again. so far,

i've spent 40+ hours on it, when i could've done it in about 10. most recently, though, we had some problems with music rights. the opening and closing scenes take place at a new year's party with music playing in the background... we have no clue what it is. so, we had to go in and mask it over with some music that we actually have the rights to. it took awhile to get it just right, but i think we've got it pretty good now. Josh and I reviewed it with Brad Barber last thursday and he gave us a few more pointers on things to look at and correct.

work has been unusually busy. i think i've done 4 mission conferences in a row now... ridiculous! we also had more work this week due to general conference. we also had a fireside on sunday night, where i was in charge of graphics. that entailed a whole lot of partial hymns, camera support, slideshows and video clips. very involved and even more stressful. add teleprompting into the mix and the fact that i was up all night working on Gladys, you could say i had a rough weekend.

Jewelyn's sister, brother and sister-in-law came down for conference we

ekend. after 11 hours of work and an hour of class on friday, we went to see Kung Fu Panda at the dollar theater. Jewelyn and i saw it two weeks ago for her birthday, but we wanted to go with everyone else. i showed up a little late because we had to set up the gym on friday night for conference, rather than saturday night for relief society. we finished at about 10:10, and then i still needed to shut down 1M and 11M. we went to Aunt Ginger's house for conference on saturday morning, then JJ and i went in to work for the afternoon session and priesthood. she ran a rebroadcast of relief society for the sisters while priesthood ran. right after work is when i went over to josh's and worked on the music for Gladys. my phone has been acting up and won't receive any calls, missed calls, voice mails, or text messages until i make an outgoing call. retarded... i know. i slept in (meaning 9:30) on sunday morning, shaved an

d showered and listened to the first half hour of conference in the car heading back out to Aunt Ginger's. there was a bigger crew than on saturday. she fed us lots and sent J and i off to work that evening.

oh, and btw... did anyone hear "put up your dukes" at conference? ...awesome.

lately i've just been wanting to take a nap, but

really can't find time to do so

... kind of like writing on my blog. the first i've really been able

to relax recently was last night at Jewelyn's. we had toast and jam and watched waking ned devine. she had seen it before but somehow totally forgot about the two naked old men riding on a motorcycle... to be honest, that's the only part of the movie i remembered. :) i think every day in TMA 185, there is some reference to Sense and Sensibility, and Waking Ned Devine.

i'm off to work tonight at 5, and hopefully i'll be able to get my reading for Cinema History done, though i'll probably be distracted by watching Prison Break - Season 4 on Hulu. this season started sooooo good. well, gotta' run... not that i have to go anywhere, i've still got an hour before class starts, i just don't have anything more to say really. :/

go captain go!

so i thought i'd start off with a little entertainment. this is one of the best youtube videos i've ever seen.

so it's been awhile... i feel so lame saying that, because recently i've said that in just about every post. things have been going well. i went home for the 4th of july, which was great. spent some time at the beach, and some time at home (evidently not enough). but it'll be nice to go back mid-august.

i worked on another shoot a few weeks ago. it was a commercial for Community Action Services. basically, it's a small company somehow affiliated with the local food bank and the united way, and they help people avoid foreclosure on their homes. there were only about 5 of us on the shoot. the only reason i was even called is because i met the DP on Staying and Going and she wanted me on her shoot as well. the best part is that because it wasn't affiliated with BYU, it was a real contracted job, so i got 50$ out of the deal.

a little while ago Jewelyn, Elisabeth, and Kevin went tubing down the river. great idea. BUT... not so good of an idea going as late in the day as we did. the sun had already gone behind the mountain and we were in the shade the whole time, and i'm guessing that the water in that river is as cold or colder than the ocean on the central coast. *burrr* it was really fun though. the best part is no one wanted the pool raft, everyone wanted the tubes... so i got stuck with it. little did everyone else realize that you can paddle on it like a surfboard and fly down the river. this helped out quite a bit when i lost my shoe at the very beginning. :)

as of late, i've been subbing quite a bit for people at work. i can definitely use the extra shifts because i'm going out of of town.

i'll try to keep this up to date more often. i'm sure tons of other things happened these past few weeks... but to be honest... i just can't remember them. better luck next week?

2 days of crocodiles and fake oreos

so... being the generous guy that i am and having sunday afternoon off of work, i agreed to help genna muggleston with "helping [her] brother move and unload his truck". i'm thinking a pickup, a few bags, plastic tubs, and a desk. well... upon arrival at the apartment complex, i was saddened to find out that the truck i was hoping for was a little larger than expected. ...kill me now... but wait... there's more! upon discovery of the behemoth uhaul, i was also informed that it was packed full. "of what?" you may be tempted to ask? reptile cages. it was full of reptile cages. alright... so this apartment is smaller than mine, and you're going to fit the capacity of a 30 foot uhaul within it's walls... it's a good thing he doesn't have a roommate... for more reasons than one. (no roommate yet, that is) all of the slithery slimies were already inside, chilling in his kitchen tupperware, while i slaved away... dragging in cage after cage, after box, after box... i didn't know that you could even have a 15 foot long snake cage? oh, nevermind... it's for a 12 foot snake... that's right... taking in the incubators was murder as well... they looked like a pair of aluminum bathtubs. if you ask me, it looked like he was gettin' ready to brew up some moonshine, but i've been assured that is not the case. i try to be a nice guy... ya' know. and i get swindled into helping the crocodile hunter move into his apartment with all of his cold-blooded friends. *shudder* and what's worse is that i had just changed into clean clothes after church, and now... i smell like the snake's lunch... or what's left of it. he said that he'd repay me by having me over for dinner, but the meal at pankot palace from indiana jones and the temple of doom didn't seem too appetizing at the time. (that was the only picture i could find :( )the surprise part of 'snake surprise' is unsurprisingly unsatisfying.

monday brought a whole new adventure. i got a call from joel ackerman on sunday night asking me to come back to the movie shoot the next day. yeah, we had finished shooting on saturday... but the DP evidently forgot to backfocus the camera onto the lens adapter, so everything was out of focus. who do i blame? everyone but myself... and that's the way it should be. :) actually, i blame Panasonic. they're definitely not my favorite company.

1. they advocate the use of p2 cards... the most horrid invention of all time. ok, so i'm a nerd and you don't know what i'm even talking about. a p2 card is a proprietary memory card only for their cameras that is basically 4 compact flash cards (that's right, the same card that many normal digital cameras use) one 16GB card costs 899$, whereas the equivalent in compact flash cards would cost less than 50$. i actually talked to a sales rep from Panasonic about it at NAB in vegas, and he just kept avoiding the whole topic, completely knowing that it's just an exploit of old technology in a proprietary form in order to make more money. thanks a lot P-sonic... remind me never to buy from you again.

2. the only high definition preview available on the HVX camera is via a proprietary connector (there's that bloody word again). well, the poorly-designed connector is supposed to lock onto the camera's connector, but doesn't work... at all. so the DP could only preview in standard definition... hence the bad focus. thanks again Panasonic.

sorry for that little rant. i'm just not a fan of convoluted and retarded ideas. that's why products like Numatic Henry are pure genius!

so, they were looking at the dailies throughout the day and kept saying that they looked great... i guess in this context, great means 'out of focus'. so saturday's 12-hour shoot went down the drain. all the actors had to be called back in, and we only got half of the crew we had on saturday. we wound up wrapping after 9 hours, which is earlier than i expected... considering that when we started shooting, we were already over an hour behind schedule. the best part about this shoot was we could finally eat the prop oreos!! they were nice, warm, and oooey goooey.
so much... so little

so mission presidents' seminar was this past week. oh my goodness, i thought i was going to die. they prepped us for the whole ordeal ahead of time, and i think i was well prepared for the actual work. it was the long hours that killed me. for the first time since january, i was home on a sunday evening. at least for the rest of the summer, that'll be how it is as well. mps went pretty well, other than the fact that no one told me that i had all kinds of gravy on my chin for about the last 6 or 7 hours of it, including when elder holland gave me a hug saying, "lookin' good, lookin' good." wonderful, just great. after all was said and done, all of the flowers for mps were up for grabs. gobs and gobs of 'em. so drew takes four or five daisies, i grab a nice cubed vase of an assorted arrangement, dustin takes an even bigger one. so, in order to outdo everyone else, i grabbed one that was about 4 feet tall. after work i took them to jewelyn, she definitely deserved them after i caused the whole longboarding accident (for which i'm still sad and embarrassed about). but, in the end... after the steaks, salmons, filet mignons, gourmet desserts and endless cheeseballs... hell week is over. thank goodness.

school is over and i pulled off an A in my history of creativity class. i aced the final project, but fat chance in me sharing it with you... well... maybe i will if i edit it a little differently. glad that's all over though.

i got called in to work on a film for the past two days. production sound isn't my favorite thing, but hey, it's experience, right? joel ackerman is the writer and director... it's called "coming and going". i was there for the project pitch a few months ago and they got funding for the project. the set was in this really old house on center street. extremely cool two story house, exposed staircase... great movie set. i pulled 3 hours yesterday and another 8 hours today. right after i was done there, it was time to go to work at the mtc.

the plans are in the mix to go home for the fourth of july. after much deliberation, matt is going to drive his truck with me and 3 other people. it'll be nice to see the kids, the grandparents and the parents. it's been quite awhile for most of them. i should be getting back late sunday night... i'm just not looking forward to more than 24 hours on the road in the next week or so.

i wish this blog entry was witty and more entertaining... it's more of an informative one... man, so was the last one. i need to keep this up daily so i can actually have fun with this.
done and done

today was my final for history... thank goodness its over. i had to get up at 6am today and go find a manilla envelope. i bought it and got my project turned in. the rest of the day until 4pm was reading and quiz taking. shoot me now! the final took a few hours, but its all done.

fhe was... interesting. i showed up miami style to the slip'n'slide at rock canyon park. the best part was the cesspool of mud at the bottom that everyone slammed into. needless to say i remained a spectator. and i still think it was a good idea.

i've been having a lot of fun lately scaring JJ McGee. its just soooo fun. it all started on friday night. we had a bonfire and i told some real-type ghost stories... Jewelyn ALMOST jumped into the fire (which would've been bad... but that's what i did the last time i was at a bonfire). time (2) happened on saturday night while watching the 6th sense. angie and J wouldn't have been scared, but they had to huddle up together to stay safe? or something... who knows. they both jumped out of their skin. great, great, great.

they brought me a type='text'>it's been awhile

so i haven't posted in quite some time now. it's kind of that feeling to where you feel busy, but then when you look back on what you've actually done, you realize that you just slept a lot, and didn't do a whole lot of anything. shoot me in the back.

work has been pretty crazy. since starting on the graphics team, i've had a lot more to do. i also get 5 extra hours per week, but i can never seem to find the time to come in. i'm probably not going to take summer classes so i can have a little more of a break, work is enough... but work and class? come on... let's be realistic here.

today was my last day of History of Creativity... thank goodness. i'm glad that one's over. i've still got my project and a paper to do for it though... which will all be done by next monday. don't even think i'm going to share what i'm doing for my project... unless it turns out way freaking cool... then i just might. who knows.

right now i'm sitting in HFAC F201 waiting for a screening of Gladys, the movie that i'm supposed to do post-sound on. it's a 'rough cut'... whatever that means. it'll be pretty interesting i think. hopefully i'll get more time than the 2 days promised me to do it in. wish me luck...
<img around 6 or so and we went shopping. i gotta' take advantage of them while they're here, right? we ate had dinner and they went back to their hotel room, exhausted from the 13 hour journey. meanwhile, we decided that we'd watch independence day at 1am. good idea. holy cow it was late before i got to bed.<br in town. we had a few people come though. bg and meg sauntered over, as well as russ, matt, and riker. they were so good and so missed. i'm really glad i got a little piece of home here in utah. you may be like meg and think, "fish tacos? *puke*" but i only started eating them when my dad started deep frying the <a the last post. i pwned my history test on wednesday after class. i was really worried about it, but i think i wound up doing pretty well. that class is such a joke. if i had a choice to go back, i'd probably choose to take history 201 instead... well, maybe not, i don't know. you have to read a bunch anyways. my professor is pretty fly though, so it's ok. the only bad thing is that it's saturday night... i'm at work... and i'm going to have to start my homework pretty soon. :( not cool.

work has been alright. we had our graphics team meeting on thursday that wound up making me late for the surplus sale, but it didn't really matter because i got the organ amp i've been waiting for. the only bad thing is that it's going to take quite a bit of work to get it fixed up in a way that i can get it <a picture of elijah wood, he was actually kind of freaked out. since i've known kirk kinsey, we've made fun of him for looking like good ole' Frodo Baggins, and now he somewhat agrees. ANYWAYS, jewelyn and elisabeth decide that we'll play Water Uno (not the same that has been portrayed as Uno H2O on Wikipedia). so i'm a little leery, knowing the ultimate consequences paid by other people that has cost them their lives. i would've been fine with a Yerba Mate, Kava, or even long time... no see

so it's been over a year... and a lot has happened. went back to school at BYU majoring in Media Arts... that was a bust. I applied twice (the maximum they allow) and they rejected me once, and only accepted me as a minor the second time. Wonderful... but my phone still rings and rings for student, graduate, and faculty projects... what does that say? hmmm... so who knows... come fall i might transfer, i might drop out, i might travel the world, or turn into a homeless guy in Frisco and make more than 100,000$ a year.

been through two relationships since my mission. good experiences and no so good experiences... but experiences nonetheless...

working at the MTC is pretty kicked back. i'm pulling 25 hours a week, but i work saturday and sunday nights, which isn't the greatest. it's not too stressful either, which is nice. plus, i know what i'm doing, which is like a first for me when it comes to jobs.

my apartment right now is prime for hanging out. there's 5 of us. we're all from california (or cali, as those of you who aren't from california call it) and get along pretty well. i've spent the past few months collecting stuff to make a home theater, and it's just about complete. too much money though, of course.

today was the first rehearsal of HollowPoint. man we suck. watkins came over for awhile, but i had to duck out early to cover a shift at work, so now there's a drumset in my room... where there's absolutely no room for it. we're in the market for a bass player, so let me know if you're interested or know someone who might be.

that should catch you up... talk about a lengthy post... i'd rather be more shortwinded than this... oh well.
